Chief Engineer The Chief Engineer is the seniormost Klingon engineer aboard a ship, base or vessel and is a member of the Order of Engineers. Klingon engineers have one job: keep the vessel's damage from interfering with continuing the battle. Because of the long history of doing so, most engineers are highly respected and honored on Klingon vessels. Second Engineer The Second Engineer is often an aspiring Chief Engineer who has not been granted admission to the Order of Engineers. During their assignment, they are usually evaluated by the Chief Engineer for admission into the order. The Second Engineer's duties are assisting the Chief Engineer in maintaining the ship, base or vessel both leading up to and during battle. Engineer Klingon engineers are usually young officers on some of their first assignments. Due to the limitd number of engineers available in the Klingon Defense Force, they're often promoted to Second Engineer more rapidly than in other departments. Engineers report to the Chief Engineer and are responsible for maintaining the ship, base or vessel in and out of combat. Anti-matter Specialist Normally an enlisted rank working near the warp core in the engineering bay. Also might be seen working along the subsystems that are associated with the warp core. Works closely with War Core engineers. Damage Control Specialist A Klingon Damage Control Specialist is responsible for reporting all damage to the Chief Engineer and assisting in triaging and repairing damaged systems before they force the Klingon vessel to retreat from battle. Maintenance Engineer In charge of making sure many of the tools and systems are not only operating, with in design specifications but also improving them from time to time to better suit the ships needs. Often times working closely with the diagnostic teams. Cleaning, and upkeep of the ship and it crew are within the job parameters of this position. Systems Engineer Much like a operations officer a systems engineer is in charge of making sure all the systems of the ship are not only working but working in harmony with each other. To some this can seem like an insurmountable task. To this officer it is seen as a work of art. Technician The workhorse of engineering many time very trained in many systems aboard ship. Also versed in the various tools of the trade. They are also expected to make run for tools for the various staff of engineering. Weapons Systems Specialist One of the most integral engineers on any Klingon ship, base or vessel, the Weapons Systems Specialist is responsible for the maintainence of the tactical hardware found throughout the ship, whether it's shipboard weapons or the armory. Warp Core Specialist One of those key roles on any star ship with a warp core. Many Chief Engineers come from this line of duty. These are the folks making sure the big engine stays online. They many times work with other members of the crew. For example the Anti-matter specialists, and warp theorists. -
Operations
Chief Operations Officer As the name states this officer is the head of the Operations department making sure everything flows right aboard the ship. Many times working closely with other officers like the XO, systems engineers and quartermasters. Familiar with almost any station that can be used on the ship in at least a rudimentary way. As the Chief of this department they organize the department in charge of making sure these things get done. Of course like a Chief of any department they also tend to take a hands on approach. Second Chief Operations Officer The Chief of Operations Officer’s right hand man. Also adept at making sure things run smoothly on the ship and making sure the Operations department is doing what they need to do and has the tools to do it. Deflector Specialist As the name states these officers are in charge of maintenance, repair, upgrading, and setting up the deflector for various uses. Many times working with the science and engineering teams. Explosives Expert The Star Trek equivalent of the EOD team. They are in charge of the safety and many times the usage of anything that goes boom. Although much of their time is spent checking to make sure any explosive device aboard ship is properly stowed away. Often times if a critical charge needs to be placed on a mission or a special warhead needs to be adapted for a special purpose they will be called for. Also many times there is at least one cross trained crewman in a specialized squad that might often include a ground warfare specialist. Hazard Systems Specialist In charge of many of the various systems aboard the star ship that are focused on dealing with damage and hostile environments. Duties can range widely from making sure space suits are in top shape to making sure things are set for an expected mission. Chief Quartermaster In charge of the department and department leaders in charge of many things that need to be distributed aboard ship. Involving almost anything from quarters to foodstuffs. On smaller ships the Chief may be the only Quartermaster. On larger ships they would at least have a small team. Often they work with security to insure the crew is not in possession of contraband or unauthorized equipment. Also working with other department heads such as Armory Officers and Explosives experts. Sensor Technician It should be noted that on some ships in sometimes this officer was part of the science teams. On a ship of the Hov’hurgh’s size they are much more of a maintenance team. They can be asked to set up the sensors for special missions. Tractor Beam Specialist In charge of the tractor beams aboard ship and systems that may be similar. As of the Next Generation era, tractor beams can also be used to push things away. So these officer may also be called on to set up tractor beams for specialized mission. Transporter Technician Sometimes one of the loneliest jobs in the world and often times not ones specialty. In charge of everything relating to transporter beams aboard ship. Science (Primary Manifest)
While most Klingon ships do not boast a dedicated Sciences division, the I.K.S. Hov'HurgH does. Being an experimental prototype demands a higher level of scientific study and skill. Everything from Astrometrics to Warp Theory, the science division is responsible for discovery, testing of new theories, and the recording and study of raw data.
Chief Science Officer Head of the entire science department and many times themselves trained in many areas of science. Many times the ships doctors can be the Chief Science Officer as well. Often will select science teams for missions and are aid in promotions of the various crew members under its head. Second Chief Science Officer Often times on large ships there is just too much for one person to do. Also as the Chief Science officer is needed on the bridge the second is often the leg work man. Basically if its happening and involving the Science Department this Officer is normally involved in some way. Also often working with the other department heads to set up mission groups. Science Officer Usually schooled in many sciences and act as shift leaders for the science department when the Chiefs are off duty. Normally there would be very few science officers on a Klingon ship this is not the case aboard the Hov'hurgh. Astrometric Scientist Mathematics are quite important for these officers. Figuring how far and the galactic movements of stellar bodies. Most often seen utilized for this specialty when in a new or poorly charted area of space. Many times working with other science department leaders when coming up with mission parameters. Botanist Plants are the main focus of the botany department. Also dealing with some species that have a symbiotic relationship with plants. One common example from earth would be Sloths. Another popular member of any exploration science team, and terraforming group. Developmental Laboratory Scientist These officers normally focus on research of various sorts. They often work with the various other science and engineering leaders. The scientific method is this department main area of study and how it applies to real world and on the fly situations. Geologist The study of planets and minerals make this scientist a very valuable member of any exploration team. Also can be seen working with mining teams and terraforming groups. Also working with other department quite often. Any Klingon vessel looking to make some profit would likely keep a geologist aboard to determine which planets would likely have precious materials. Gravimetric Scientist As the name might imply these scientists major area of study is gravity. A quite needed science many times as many starship drive systems are affected and driven by just that. Warp drives for example change the nearby gravity fields. Also quite important to Astrometrics and Navigation for figuring out the safest courses of travel. Photonic Studies Scientist The study of light only hints at the vastness of this scientist field of studies and duties aboard a modern vessel. They are the brains behind holo-graphics. Bending light into a solid tangible form. Anything that may need an expert of light or other spectrum of energy might fall onto this department. Although on board this ship they would be quite busy with new and improved Holo-emitters and programs for the suites. Research Laboratory Scientist Much like the developmental lab scientist these crewmen specialize in research and development often working hand in hand with each other. Although many times a research scientist is allocated to some lab somewhere. Warp Theorist Specializing in the science behind the big engines of the Star Trek universe. Also seen working alongside many departments like Warp Engineering and Gravitic sciences. The theorists behind many practical application specialists. Often one might imagine arguments between this department and some engineers about leaving enough room to work on things or safety protocols. -
Medical (Primary Manifest)
Medical and Science services are sparse in the Klingon Empire and as such are in high demand on ships, bases and vessels near the front lines of a conflict. Besides dealing with medical problems, all Klingon physicians also double as science officers for the ship, base or vessel.
Chief Physician The Chief Physician is tasked with the physical well-being of the crew and providing medical assistance where needed. In many cases, the Chief Physician will be charged with assisting wounded warriors in attaining a more honorable death than lying on a bed waiting to die. In addition, physicians carry the added responsibility of being the science officers aboard a Klingon vessel. Physician While rare on smaller vessels, some Klingon vessels and bases have more than one physician who aids the Chief Physician in their medical and scientific duties. On medium-sized vessels, a physician will usually take on the duties the Chief Physician prefers not to do. Like Chief Physicians, normal physicians carry the added responsibility of being the science officers aboard a Klingon ship, base or vessel. Nurse Normally a low ranking officer. Some can be as skilled as some doctors and often assist them in almost every medical procedure. Most doctors have an entire staff of Nurses at their beck and call. Nurses also come in various types, from LPN’s to Nurse Practitioners. Medic Usually a enlisted medical personnel. They can assist other medical officers, but are often attached to ground units that are expecting casualties. In fact any large squad will have a medic. Although not normally in charge of medications they have a battery of medications and medical equipment for use in an emergency. Biochemist Normally these medical officers focus on things like pharmaceuticals and or any other things needed to enter the body. New hypo sprays for example. They also are trained at how many organisms function on a chemical level and can be quite valuable when dealing with alien species of unknown origin. Biologist Studying the various life forms that the people of the Alpha Quadrant have come in contact with. Most exploration teams would have someone with this specialty in it roster. Also working with many other fields quite often. For example setting up a containment area for a species visiting the ship that requires a specific life support or dietary requirement. -
Warriors (Primary Manifest)
Klingon Warriors are feared throughout the galaxy for their ferocity. There are few other better warriors than a Klingon, even half drunk. Being a warrior and dying honorably in combat is the highest honor a Klingon can achieve.
Chief Warrior While most warriors on a Klingon ship, base or vessel are enlisted, the Chief Warrior is an officer and highly decorated warrior with a vast amount of combat experience. In many cases, Chief Warriors have been admitted to the Order of the Bat'leth during their time as a Chief Warrior.
The Chief Warrior is responsible for ground combat tactical decisions and leading Klingon warriors into battle, be it on a planet or on another vessel.Second Warrior The Second Warrior is a respected officer and warrior who reports to the Chief Warrior and is responsible for assisting the Chief Warrior in their duties. In some rare cases, Second Warriors are also members of the Order of the Bat'leth. In addition to assisting with tactical decisions, the Second Warrior is most often responsible for shipboard security as well under the oversight of the Chief Warrior. Squad Leader Warriors are broken down into squads that are commanded by junior officers with combat experience or highly senior enlisted warriors. Working with the Chief and Second Warriors, they are responsible for executing battle orders. Master-at-Arms The Master-at-Arms is primarily responsible for training warriors on the things they need most. In many cases, this includes continued training on hand-to-hand combat, but can also include training on explosives, infiltration and more technical matters of an upcoming assignment. Warrior Comprising the highest majority of Klingons on a ship, warriors are the lifeblood of the Klingon Defense Force and strive to bring glory and honor to their houses through battle. -
Air Cavalry (Primary Manifest)
Pilots, gunners and support crews for the qul'toQ long range interceptors.
Flight Commander The flight deck and its personnel are all under the command of one person as this department is, in fact, almost as large as the rest of the ship’s crew. Consisting not only of pilots but all of the support crew one might expect to find in hangars and flight lines. Because of this, on a ship the size of the Hov’hurgh they are one of the few officers that can hold the same rank as its captain. Wing Commander Next in command to the Flight Commander and specifically in charge of one wing of fighters. This officer is quite needed to help out with the many and varied tasks that are required to make sure that everything functions well in the hangers as well as on missions. They do have fighter craft available to them, though they are typically in charge in the hangars while the fighters are in active combat. Squadron Commander Normally acting as the CAP and deciding on pilot rotations and patrol duties. These officers are in charge of a squadron of five fighter craft and their pilots and crews, including his own. This is a combat position as well as administrative. Fighter Pilot These pilots use the qul’toQ to bring death in space back to a person to person feel. Knowing that sometimes they only live for seconds many pilots live life by the millisecond rather than day by day. Although duties vary they would most often be seen on deck near the hanger. Flight Weapons Officer As the qul’toQ is a two man fighter with a pilot and a Gunner/REO these officers are in charge of navigation and monitoring of all weapons systems. ECMs communication and the rear gun of the ship. Sometimes setting up loads and courses for the micro torpedoes. Avionics Specialist Much like an engineering position the Avionics Specialist deals with much of the hardware aboard any small craft. Usually seen running pre-checks on fighters. They are well versed in maintenance and upgrades to anything that flies needing atmospheric profiles. Flight Support Specialist Flight bay technicians. These crewman take care of anything from the refueling and reloading of the fighters to maintenance in the launch bays. Sometimes as simple of a job as flagging launches to becoming hazard teams if there is damage to a flight bay. -
Mercenary (Primary Manifest)
The Mercenary 'division' is a loose collective of paid gun arms that are under the direct command of the Captain and the members of her command staff. Mercenaries earn their pay not only for their martial prowess, but also the other talents that they bring to the table. Each Mercenary is assigned to work regular shifts in the particular department that best suits their skill set, while not actually being a part of the typical chain of command. Mercenaries are not normally eligible for command positions, as they are not regular members of the Klingon Defense Force.
Chief Mercenary This is the most dangerous of the Mercenaries, able to use their reputation and battle prowess alone to keep the others inline. This is a position of authority and earned trust that acts as the liaison between the Captain and her hired guns. They are also expected to perform duties as a Mission Specialist and Adviser. Second Chief Mercenary Assistant to the Chief, the Mercenary in this position is viewed as a trusted and capable member of the crew by both the Chief as well as the Captain. Responsible for the 'Care and Feeding' (conferring with the Chief about things such as daily work, training and free time schedules) they serve as the 'complaints department' for the Mercs as well. Yeah, the jokes get old, but on a Klingon ship, honor fights aren't exactly uncommon. Mercenary Grunt Hired gun, cutthroat, pirate. They're called a lot of things by a lot of different people. They're not fond of authority, but tend to listen to reason. Especially if that reasoning can be backed up by force. They get paid, they're loyal. At least until someone offers them greener pastures. Most mercenaries aren't stupid and have proven that simply by their survival, though there are those that seem to blindly stumble through life relatively unscathed. Each Grunt is assigned to a department best fitting their skill set, earning their pay through more than just martial prowess. In return for their obedient service on the Hov'hurgh, they are paid, fed, sheltered and trained by the Captain alone and are not a part of the regular Klingon Defense Force chain of command. -
Civilian (Primary Manifest)
Yes! We have Civilian support staff!!
Advisor Acts as liaison between the civilian population and the command staff. These people tend to know a lot about a multitude of subjects that the crew might need to know about. Often just a temporary person aboard ship, this is sometimes a title for someone that the ship’s Captain wants to hold onto that doesn't fit neatly into the other chains of command. Diplomat Assists the command staff in diplomatic dealings outside of the crew structure. Sometimes called an Ambassador these people are specialist in helping out when words might be preferred instead of gunfire. This is often one of the most thankless jobs in the Klingon Empire and often people that take the jobs are targeted for assassination, as they seem weak for taking a diplomatic position. Even though, in fact, it takes a rather strong person from a society of warlords to be the first to call for an end to hostilities. Chef Chef, not Chief...These guys cook the food aboard ship and take care of anything that has to do with it, except perhaps the Replicators. In fact, some might think of them as Federation sorcery, though they have to admit that they do come in handy at times. Bartender Yes, you guessed it: they serve liquor, or "nerve tonic". And if you honestly have no idea what a bartender is you might want to Google it and/or wait until you're of legal drinking age. Trader As the Klingon Empire is unlike the Federation in that they are not a commune and still run on money and wealth, these people aid the ship when trying to set up trades and or purchase things from anyone. Including peoples not friendly to either the ship or the Empire. Entertainer An all inclusive title for any type of entertainer that could be on ship. Musicians, playwrights, actors, DJ’s, and so on. As Klingons and many other soldier types can get somewhat feisty when not on a mission, these people are essential to the well being of a Klingon ship. They are often seen working with the Chefs and Bartenders. -
Priesthood (Primary Manifest)
Priests/Priestesses of Kahless
High Priest/Priestess One of the Elders of The Followers of Kahless. There could be others as well as visiting dignitaries. Another essential morale booster of sorts and also acting as the head counselor for the ship. Priest/Priestess The Followers of Kahless aid in any religious activity aboard ship. Also acting as counselors of sorts when need be. They are under the head of the high priest and as such some duties may vary. Much of their time is spent in meditation and honing their skills in the martial arts. Acolyte The assistants to the priests. They are often either Warriors who have lost their way, Warriors in training, or future priests themselves. Also key in any traditional activity that might surround the philosophy of Kahless. -
